Filming has only just begun on the latest installment of the Superman franchise but Warner Bros has already revealed the first official image of our fully super suited hero.
Man of Steel is currently shooting in Chicago under the direction of 300 and Watchmen director Zack Snyder. The reboot is being shepherded by Batman savior Christopher Nolan with a script by frequent collaborator David Goyer. The quest for a new Kal-El took many months but the filmmakers found their man in relative unknown Henry Cavill – best known in these climes for a stint on The Tudors as Charles Brandon and set to be all muscle bound on screen soon in Tarsem Singh’s Immortals.
Cavill is joined by a ridiculously impressive cast, starting with three time Oscar nominated Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Morpheus himself – Lawrence Fishburne – as Daily Planet editor Perry White. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner take on the roles of Superman’s adoptive parents. You’ll also find some extra-terrestrial types in the cast; like General Zod (previously brought to life by Terrence Stamp and now in the capable hands of Michael Channon and Kal-El’s real mother played by the gorgeous Julia Ormond.
The original 1978 version of the Superman story cast Marlon Brando in the role of the protagonist’s father Jor-El. This time, the filmmakers have chosen superstar Russell Crowe to play the character.
With crew in common with the likes of The Dark Knight and Watchmen and a star filled cast, there’s simply no reason not to be getting extremely excited about Man of Steel already. It’s set for release in June 2013.
