Rory McIlroy’s ex talks about their breakup

I didn’t really want to set up a new life for myself on tour in a hotel and living out of a suitcase every week

Former golf WAG Holly Sweeney revealed she first moved in with millionaire ace Rory McIlroy while she was sitting her A Level exams and her friends were still living with their parents.

The 21-year-old joked that she won 'visitation rights' for their pampered pooches since they split up last July when the US Open champ began dating Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

The Belfast student said: “We had a really strong relationship for a young couple. I moved in when I was about 18. There was always something special otherwise we wouldn’t have taken it that far and moved in together.
I moved in at my last set of exams."

The model refused to speak ill of her millionaire ex-boyfriend as she described how she handled the practical arrangements around the shock break-up. She said: “I took all the DVDs. He got to keep the dogs. It’s unfair for them to run around in an apartment rather than however many acres of land there is. I have visitation rights.

“They got their Christmas dinner so I got a little picture. We are friends of course. We still talk. Why should I remember the six years that were fantastic for one last horrible memory?”

Holly told Brendan O'Connor on The Saturday Night Show that she wasn't the typical golf WAG when she was with McIlroy. "I just still went to school and college. I wasn’t the typical WAG. I didn’t really want to be. “I had my friends at home and had my lifestyle I had already set up with my friends, I didn’t really want to set up a new life for myself on tour in a hotel and living out of a suitcase every week.”

Holly, who is due to appear on TV3’s upcoming Celebrity Come Dine With Me, said she doesn’t have someone special in her life at the moment. The model is currently working on fashion and TV projects while on a gap year from college. She explained: “I wish there was but no, I haven’t found anybody. I just knock them straight back."
